Sally Jo Howe's Obituary
Sally Jo Howe was a caring Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Sister and Friend. She passed away on Sunday, December 10th, 2023, at the age of 79.
Sally was born January 27, 1944 to the late Walter and Clela (Curless) Bohon. She grew up in Good Hope, Illinois where Walter and Clela served as school teachers. Sally was in Clela’s class in a one room schoolhouse. She learned to play the clarinet and piano, and she participated in Future Homemakers of America (FHA) in high school. Sally enrolled for one year at Western Illinois University, before completing training in Nebraska to work for the airlines. She later flew to the DC area and worked for the Department of the Navy as a secretary. She met her husband, Larry Howe, when he was working in her building for C&P telephone company after he served 4 years in the United States Air Force. Larry and Sally have shared over 52 years of marriage and had 3 children: Julie, Tiffany and Mark (perished in infancy).
For the last 46 years Larry and Sally have resided in Charles County, Maryland where Sally stayed home to raise their daughters. She was active in the Parent Teacher Organization at JC Parks Elementary School cutting hundreds of Campbell soup labels and running the Santa Secret Shop. She continued volunteering at Matthew Henson Middle School. Later she worked part time in customer service for Hallmark and American Greetings.
Sally was very proud of Julie and Tiffany as they each graduated college, started scientific careers and found United States Marine Corps Son-in-Laws to join the family. Julie and David Dickerson reside in Chesterfield, Virginia; while Tiffany and Timothy Dorsey reside in Columbia, Maryland.
Her greatest treasures were her grandchildren: Andrew and Lindsay Dickerson; and Matthew and Suzannah Dorsey. She passionately embraced being a Grandma, always looking forward to hearing and sharing stories about her grandchildren’s funny antics.
She enjoyed hearing about the adventures and travels from her sister Nancy Reschke, nephews Jerry and Steve Reschke and Kim Hirai in Michigan.
Sally liked going to see musical productions including, her favorite, “Singin' in the Rain.” Some of her favorite pastimes included lunch outings, collecting stuffed bears and Cherished Teddies and watching Hallmark Movies. She loved having a cat curled up in her lap and reading true stories about animals touching people’s lives.
The visitation will be held at Huntt Funeral Home on 3035 Old Washington Road in Waldorf, Maryland, on Sunday, December 17 from 2-4 pm. The service will be at 4 pm at Huntt Funeral Home with a reception to be announced following.
