Sarah J Cotney's Obituary
Sarah J. Cotney, 78, of La Plata, Maryland, passed away on January 18, 2021 at the University of Maryland Charles Regional Medical Center in La Plata.
Born on October 26, 1942 in Ashland, Alabama, she was the daughter of the late Martin Deweese and Eunice DeWeese. A homemaker and mom, Mrs. Cotney enjoyed sewing and was a past member of the Quilting Club, reading, going to the beach and spending time with her children and grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister Ruby Jo Heath.
Mrs. Cotney is survived by her childhood sweetheart and husband of 59 years, Barry L. Cotney; beloved children Sandi Rapczynski and her husband Buddy and Barry Martin “Marty” Cotney; adored grandchildren Drew and Cole.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, January 30, 2021 from 9:30AM until time of service at 11AM at the First Baptist Church of La Plata, 9070 Hawthorne Road, La Plata, Maryland with Pastor Gary Schneider officiating. A livestream of the service will be available through the church’s Facebook Page by searching “First Baptist Church of La Plata”.
Following the services, Mrs. Cotney will be laid to rest at Trinity Memorial Gardens in Waldorf, Maryland.
