Thomas Leo Berry Sr.'s Obituary
Thomas (Sonny) Leo Berry Sr., 82, of Indian Head Maryland passed on May 16, 2023 surrounded by his loved ones. He was born on September 11, 1940 to Carl and Grace Berry in La Plata, Maryland. Thomas was raised on a farm off of Berry Road and in 1961 he went to work for Naval Surface Warfare Center in Indian Head as a Propellant Handler and spent most of his career in the production department reaching the position of Operational Branch Manager. Thomas was a Code M employee most of his career, which spanned nearly four decades. During this time, he became well-respected and admired by all that knew him for his vast technical knowledge, caring leadership, and ever helpful spirit. This resulted in Thomas receiving the Joe L. Browning Award for Managerial Excellence. Thomas fell in love and married Carolyn (Rison) Berry. Together, they had two children; Thomas Berry Jr and Terri Lynn Berry-Parker. Thomas was of Catholic faith, he loved God and his family dearly. He enjoyed golfing with the Wicomico Senior League, hunting, fishing, playing slot machines and helping with the Labor Day BBQ at Lions Club in Mechanicsville. Along with his parents and beloved wife Carolyn, Tom was predeceased by his brothers Benny Berry and Puggie Schneider. He is survived by his children Thomas Berry Jr.,(Lydia), Terri Berry Parker, sister Lena Bledsoe, brother Earl Berry and Stepfather George Schneider; grandchildren: Thomas C Berry, Amber Owen, Desirae Berry, Joshua Parker, Cory Kalin, and Tiffany Maston. Great-grandchildren: Ava Berry, Khari Berry, Amiri Berry, Chase Maston, Colton Maston, Kennedy Maston, Connor Kalin, and Gabriella Kalin. The family asks in Lieu of flowers, donations be made to the American Cancer Society at; American Cancer Society, PO Box 22718, Oklahoma City, OK 73123-1718. Services will be held on May 31st, 2023 at Raymond funeral chapel located at 5635 Washington Ave La Plata MD 20646, with visitation beginning at 10:00 am, followed by service at 12:00 pm. Interment at 1:00 pm at Trinity Memorial Gardens located at 3221 Mattawoman Beantown Rd, Waldorf, MD 20601.
