Timothy Wendell Casey's Obituary
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Timothy Wendell Casey, who transitioned to his heavenly home on December 9, 2024, at the age of 71. Born on January 7, 1953 in Portsmouth, Virginia, to Olin Arthur Casey and Naomi Elizabeth Casey, he was the youngest of four boys. His brothers, Olin Wilbur Casey, Thomas Kenneth Casey, and William "Bill" Carlton Casey, all predeceased him.
Raised in the Truxton neighborhood in Portsmouth, in his early years, Timothy was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church where he participated in various church groups and received spiritual nourishment. As a teenager, he displayed a proclivity for hospitality, leadership, and service, working at the Ambassador's Club, a civic and social organization dedicated to community service and charitable giving. In his senior year at I.C. Norcom High School, his academic and athletic talent earned him full scholarships to attend both Virginia Polytechnic Institute University and State University (presently known as Virginia Tech) in Blacksburg, Virginia and the Virginia Union University in Richmond, Virginia.
Timothy elected to attend Virginia Union University, a Historically Black College (HBCU) where he was a football standout for the VUU Panthers, wearing the #24. He would later be an inductee of the Virginia Union University Hall of Fame, along with the entire 1973 CIAA Championship Football Team. The 1973 VUU football team was the first team inducted since the 1923 team was inducted in the 1980s into the VUU Hall of Fame.
While on campus, Timothy was named among "Who's Who Among American College Students." He also pledged the Zeta chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. in 1972. As the ace of the line (#1), his line name "Blood" was a reference to his commitment, strength and endurance. In 1973-74, Tim was named Brother of the Year for the chapter.
In addition to his active involvement on campus, in the spring of 1972 at Virginia Union University, Timothy met the love of his life, Pamela Casey, whom he cherished and adored. He was a loving and affectionate husband of 48 years to Pamela in Coleman Love. Upon graduating from Virginia Union in 1975, Timothy was offered a contract to play semi-professional football with the Philadelphia Bell, a franchise of the World Football League. Following a catastrophic knee injury, Timothy was unable to return for play.
Despite his inability to pursue a career in professional football, Timothy developed a new purpose for his life serving as a devoted husband, father, and provider. He and Pamela shared two beautiful daughters, Tameka N. Casey, Esq., and Dr. Jenna Casey (Psy.D). He was a caring and devoted Dad, who immersed himself in nurturing his daughter's educational and extracurricular development. A tireless, hard-working provider for his family, Timothy worked in business management before eventually retiring as Operations Manager from the Virginian Pilot in Norfolk, Virginia. His professionalism, leadership abilities, and integrity, bestowed him with the respect and admiration of all of his colleagues. Over the course of his career, Tim received a plethora of awards, honors, and recognitions for his professional achievements, i.e., "Boss of the year."
In addition to garnering the admiration and respect of those whom he worked with, Tim was a loyal and respected friend, who maintained close relationships with childhood friends, former teammates, coaches, and fraternity brothers. Tim, also known as "Casey," touched others with his kindness, wisdom, and joy.
Timothy's legacy will live on in the hearts of those he leaves behind, including his immediate family, mother-in-law, father-in-law, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

He will be laid to rest in the Garden of Peace, surrounded by the beauty of nature that he cherished.
As we remember Timothy, let us carry forward his spirit of compassion, cheerfulness, dedication, and love, ensuring his memory remains a guiding light in our lives.
