Veronica Darlene Hunter's Obituary
Veronica Darlene Hunter, 76, of Washington D.C., passed away peacefully on June 30, 2024.
Veronica Darlene Hunter was born in Washington, D.C. to the late Thomas and Margaret Keys on August 18, 1947.
She was educated in the D.C. Public School System, and then went on to graduate from PTC Nursing School as a Certified Nursing Assistant, and spent many years caring for others.
In 1966, she married the late James Leon Hunter II, and together they raised 4 children, Janiero Keys-Armstead (William), the late James Leon Hunter III, James L. Hunter, and Bonnica Martin-McAllister (Cedric).
She loved dancing, Tina Turner, watching Wendy Williams, and spending time with her grandbabies and family.
She preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Margaret Keys, son, James Leon Hunter III, and siblings, Barbara Jackson, Jean Fowler, and Thomas Keys.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory her siblings, Ann Turner, Rena Keys, Joan Keys, and Barry Keys, children, Janiero Keys-Armstead (William), James L. Hunter, and Bonnica Martin-McAllister (Cedric), grandchildren, Tyrone Keys, Theresa Keys, Aaron Martin, Jaylen McAllister, Jamaiyah Hunter, and great-grandchildren Tymia Morrison, and Ayden Williams, as well as a host of nieces and nephews and other family members and friends.
The family also like to recognize her dedicated aide, Angela Darby, who cared for her for the last 12 plus years as one of her own parents.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, July 19, 2024 at 10:00 AM at Capitol Mortuary, 1425 Maryland Ave NE, Washington, DC 20002, officiated by Reginald Jackson, music selection by Tammy Hayes, and a reflection by Travounda Foster.
Interment to follow at Trinity Memorial Gardens, 3221 Mattawoman-Beantown Road, Waldorf, MD, 20601.
