Virginia Ann Wathen's Obituary
Virginia Ann Wathen, 71, of La Plata, Maryland passed away on Saturday, April 1, 2023 at the Charles County Hospice House in Waldorf, Maryland.
Born in 1951, in Washington D.C., she was the daughter of the late John and Rita Brawner. A homemaker and mom, Virginia was a gentle soul who enjoyed listening to upbeat music, dancing, shopping, and a variety of arts & crafts. She made the most amazing pop-overs and brownie drop cookies that can never be duplicated.
In addition to her parents, Virginia was preceded in death by her husband Bernard “Bernie” Wathen; siblings Jane Carrick, Donna Merchant, Jerry Brawner, and Butch Brawner.
Virginia is survived by her sister Margaret Dobry and her husband Rob; children Robert “Bobby” DePhillip and his wife Dorothy, Carleen Cusic and her husband Mark, Anthony “Tony” DePhillip, James “Jimmy” DePhillip II and his wife Sara; grandchildren Joseph Gore and his wife Jennie, Nicholas Gore, Samantha Cusic, McKenna DePhillip, Emarie DePhillip, Audrey DePhillip, and James DePhillip III; great grandchildren Abner and Amelia Gore, as well as a host of nieces and nephews. The family would like to acknowledge special caregiver Jo Ann Ricks, for the support and love provided over the years.
A private service and interment will be held at 11AM on Friday, April 14, 2023 at Trinity Memorial Gardens, 3221 Mattawoman-Beantown Road, Waldorf, Maryland 20601 (guests are asked to meet at the cemetery by 10:50AM).
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Charles County, 2505 Davis Road, Waldorf, Maryland 20603.
