Walter "Walt" Edward DePew's Obituary
Walter Edward “Walt” DePew, age 72 of Leland, NC passed away at his home on Wednesday, October 21, 2020.
Walt was born in La Plata, Maryland on September 11, 1948. His parents were Thomas and Dora Viola Johnson DePew.
Walt was a retired professional Sheet Metal Worker and was a member of Sheet Metal Workers Local 100 Washington DC Area. He was a loyal fan of the Washington Nationals and the Washington Redskins. He enjoyed feasting on Maryland Blue Crabs and he also had a large collection of Blue Crab Christmas ornaments that he was very proud of. He especially enjoyed the thrill of the hunt for new additions to his collection. Walt also enjoyed crossword puzzles and reading. He had a memory like an elephant and a brilliant mind full if interesting facts and trivial knowledge which made him a wonderful conversationalist. In his younger days, Walt was a car enthusiast and loved drag racing.
Walt was also an incredibly talented craftsman who enjoyed fixing, improving, and making things for others. He took great pride in his work and he was not satisfied until he completed a job to perfection.
Walt was preceded in death by his parents, and his brothers Daniel DePew and Claude DePew.
Walt is survived by his daughter and son-in-law Kathy and Jeff Trinidad of Leland, and son Kevin DePew of Washington, DC; and one special granddaughter, Kaitlin Marie Futch; brother, Chester DePew, and sisters Mildred Keicher and Johnie Reynolds; and several special nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at Trinity Memorial Gardens in Waldorf, Maryland at 11am on Saturday, November 14, 2020.
